Rizhao
Rizhao is an ocean park that combines an aquarium with a plant and bird park. The design was inspired by the golden sea surface at sunrise. A non-linear parametric method shapes soft patterns that recall ripples on the water. The aquarium facade is clad in golden perforated aluminum panels, while the plant and bird park is enclosed by a glass curtain wall. A spherical single-layer grid skylight with a span of 40 meters crowns the aquarium, and natural light reaches more than 60 percent of the water body. Visiting routes and pools are interspersed to create varied exhibition spaces.
Rizhao Ocean Park by Tengyuan Design has been highlighted as a grand representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Rizhao Ocean Park earned the Golden A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2020. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design prize that recognizes superior design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
