House in Toyonaka
House in Toyonaka is a private residence in a dense residential district in northern Osaka, Japan. The site is surrounded by closely packed houses and has no distant views, so privacy was the main concern. The house therefore avoids large windows and stays closed to the street. A glass floor, split-level floors and skylights let the line of sight pass slightly through each part of the interior, reducing the sense of enclosure. The limited daylight also makes the passing of time clearly perceived. The total floor area is 107.62 square meters.
House in Toyonaka Architecture by Shintaro Fujiwara was identified as a creative illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award. House in Toyonaka Architecture won the Silver A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2020. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design accolade which honors exceptional design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
