 White Box House

White Box

White Box is a private residence built on a narrow site measuring four meters wide and twenty meters deep. The interior is modeled after a small museum and has an inorganic yet elegant character. Privacy is protected by reducing the number of windows, while a skylight above the stairway hall brings natural light into the family library, the living area and the ground floor. All walls are painted white, so light is diffused even through small gaps. Indirect line lighting on the walls and ceiling adds depth, and doors that reach the ceiling make the long space appear larger.

White Box House by TOMOHIRO ARAKI was recognized as a grand representation of architectural design by the A' Design Awards. White Box House won the Iron A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2024. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design recognition program which celebrates exceptional design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
