249 Design Hotel
The 249 Design Hotel is a hospitality building in the tourist city of Gramado, Brazil. The project is a retrofit that expanded an existing inn of 318 square meters and 10 suites into a building of 1106 square meters and 31 suites. A new reception volume and a new section of suites with balconies were added. Steel was selected as the main structure because it allowed faster construction. Wood and stone cover the facades, following local building traditions. The design creates a respectful dialogue between contemporary and German vernacular architecture.
249 Design Hotel Hospitality Building by Torres Arquitetos was featured as an outstanding illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award. 249 Design Hotel Hospitality Building was awarded the Golden A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2024. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design competition that recognizes outstanding design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
