The Box
The Box is a four-story house built on a small site in a rural setting. The white facade is composed of solid and recessed squares that form a simple geometric volume. Mineral paint is used as the facade finish, as it is durable, easy to clean and reflects heat radiation. The kitchen and dining area face a double-height space, so cooking sounds and smells reach the floor above and bring the family together. A composite west wall and a vertical ventilation shaft reduce solar heat and move air through the interior. Staggered floor slabs frame views of the landscape.
The Box Architecture by Hsiang-Peng Chang was featured as an innovative illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. The Box Architecture was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2023. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design accolade that rewards exceptional design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
