The Circus
The Circus is a vacation house designed as a relaxed retreat for a client who enjoys cars and for visiting friends. The guiding concept is spending time with cars. Unlike a typical house with a built-in garage, the layout blurs the boundaries between people, cars, and rooms. The form is inspired by a circus tent. A large volume with twenty-four sides contains an independent inner volume shaped like a wide round table, which forms the second story. The supporting core uses no posts, and tension is maintained by slanted outer walls.
The Circus Vacation House by Cubo Design Architect has been identified as an outstanding example of architectural design by the A' Design Awards. The Circus Vacation House was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2023. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design accolade that rewards excellent design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
