United Cinemas Unicus Chichibu
United Cinemas Unicus Chichibu is a cinema complex built for the city of Chichibu, which had been without a movie theatre for 29 years. The complex holds seven screens and 650 seats within 2,490 square metres. Most screens seat fewer than 100 people, which allows a wide variety of films to be shown for a small population. A curtain wall facade and a bright lobby finished with slate stone and wood welcome passers-by as well as film-goers. The design works as a living room for the city, where visitors of all ages can meet. All theatres use laser projectors and a digital signage system.
United Cinemas Unicus Chichibu Complex by Mitsuhiro Shinohara was recognized as an outstanding illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Awards. United Cinemas Unicus Chichibu Complex was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2023. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design recognition program that recognizes exceptional design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
