Austin Land
Austin Land is an indoor children's playground on the fifth floor of a department store in Taiwan. The 892.5 square meter space uses an open plan, so children can move freely between areas such as a shell sand pool, an art painting wall, a reading house, an engineering house and a large ball pool. A dream train connects the separate zones. Large surfaces in white and natural oak keep children clearly visible, which supports safety. The materials are stain resistant, and chamfered corners reduce the risk of injury.
Austin Land Playground by Yen-Jung Lai was recognized as a creative illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Austin Land Playground earned the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2023. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design award that rewards excellent design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
