Ice and Fire
Ice and Fire is a rental chalet designed for a narrow plot in the Niseko ski resort in Hokkaido, Japan. The two-level holiday home contains a garage, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a Japanese bath, with 220.74 square metres of interior space. Dark metal cladding protects the building from the cold weather, and vertical standing seams run down from the roof. Natural cedar and oak and a fireplace at the core of the living area warm the interior. Balconies, side setbacks and small side windows provide privacy, while the second floor frames views of Mount Yotei.
Ice and Fire Chalet by Franck Giral has been featured as an exceptional illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Awards. Ice and Fire Chalet was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2023. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is a highly prestigious international design award which celebrates exceptional design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
