House in Niigata
House in Niigata is a private house designed for a family of four in an old and densely built residential area. The outer walls are made of wooden material lightly colored in gray, so the building harmonizes with the surrounding streets. The plan is organized around two gardens. A courtyard enclosed by a concrete wall is placed on the ground floor, and a roof terrace framed by a wooden lattice is placed on the second floor. All rooms face these two gardens, so screening such as curtains is not needed. Traditional wooden construction was used.
House in Niigata Residential Building by Kazunori Kiryu was recognized as an outstanding example of architectural design by the A' Design Award. House in Niigata Residential Building received the Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2022. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design accolade that honors superior design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
