T Noie
T Noie is a residential house built in Toyota City, Japan. The house is arranged as two spaces, each 1.55 meters wide, placed on either side of a central structure. The minimum dimensions needed for each room were studied for a family of five, and this study led to the width of 1.55 meters. Posts of laminated pine 50 mm wide are joined to beams to form a T-shaped structure. The floorboards are made of 55 mm local cypress. High windows bring in natural light that changes the interior through the day. The compact plan suits small sites and limited budgets.
T Noie Residential House by Katsutoshi Sasaki was selected as an outstanding representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award. T Noie Residential House won the Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2022. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design award which celebrates excellent design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
