Dan Mo
Dan Mo is a retirement residence completed in February 2020 in Taichung, covering 440 square meters. The lotus flower inspired the design, and the architectural elements portray the parallel pattern seen on lotus petals. Mortar is applied to the surfaces with a special technique that makes the material tougher, denser and resistant to wind and rain. Apart from external tile cladding used to channel water, no further surface treatment is applied, which reduces material consumption. A circular path on the first floor links the function spaces and supports family interaction.
Dan Mo Residence by Ta-Hsiu Lee has been identified as a grand example of architectural design by the A' Design Award. Dan Mo Residence was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2022. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is a highly prestigious, international, juried design competition which recognizes superior design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
