Kama-Asa Shop
Kama-Asa Shop is a retail interior design for a store selling kitchen utensils in Tokyo. The shop is based on the belief that good tools are made for a good reason, so the space presents the skills of the craftsmen who make the tools on display. To reflect that idea, the interior shows the skills of building craftsmen. Rebar, a ribbed steel bar normally hidden inside walls, becomes the main design element. Handrails and furniture are made of rebar. The forms are simple, yet the work still requires careful craftsmanship.
Kama-Asa Shop Kitchen Utensils by Masahiro Yoshida has been selected as an innovative illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award. Kama-Asa Shop Kitchen Utensils earned the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2022. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design award which recognizes superior design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
