Pod House
Pod House is a kindergarten interior created inside a former laundry building in Xuhui district, Shanghai. The interior covers an area of 120 square meters. The original L-shaped enclosure is retained, and an irregular arc-shaped volume is added within it. The curved form recalls a pea pod, which gives the design its name. Two central skylights bring daylight inside, while the roof holds a circular track and a play area. Round openings and stainless steel surfaces soften the indoor boundaries. Storage, changing and washing areas occupy the space outside the curved walls.
Pod House Kindergarten by Liben Design Office has been featured as an innovative illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Awards. Pod House Kindergarten earned the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2021. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design accolade which celebrates superior design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
