Sho
Sho is a Japanese restaurant interior in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, with an area of 220 square meters. The design continues the spirit of Den in Tokyo, which draws on the ryotei, a traditional Japanese dining house. Burnt cedar boards and metal hardware form the main entry. Slate flooring recalls the stone used in Den, and thin lattices along the path blur light and shadow like an indoor garden. The ceiling is made of Taiwanese bamboo, and the seats were made by craftsmen in Tainan. The open work station allows several chefs to work at once. The project was completed in December 2020.
Sho Restaurant by Variety Enterprise Co., Ltd was recognized as an innovative illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Sho Restaurant received the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2021. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design prize which rewards excellent design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
