Floating Restaurant

Floating

Floating is a restaurant located in farmland in Guangdong Province, China. The building is surrounded by water and rests on columns set at irregular spacings. The design takes inspiration from the traditional Hakka houses of rural China. An undulating roof form echoes the movement of water waves. Local materials are used throughout the structure. Inside, fish-shaped decorations are placed to complement the surrounding waterscape. The aim is a calm dining space that blends into the rural landscape.

Floating Restaurant by Nie Jian Ping has been identified as a grand example of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Floating Restaurant was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2021. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is a juried, academic and highly prestigious design accolade which rewards superior design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
