West Lake
Hangzhou West Lake Service Area is a highway service area in Hangzhou, China. The reconstruction project covers a planning area of 61,408 square meters and replaces older facilities of limited scale and function. The design takes inspiration from the sweet-scented osmanthus, the city flower of Hangzhou, and osmanthus shaped roofs crown the buildings. Facades of white curtain wall glass and wooden grilles link the architecture with the surrounding landscape. Two main buildings to the north and south hold dining spaces with different themes. Warm wood and plain colors define the interior.
West Lake Service Area by Chun Kong Au was highlighted as an exceptional example of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. West Lake Service Area received the Silver A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2021. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design competition that honors superior design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
