Island
Island is a hair salon set inside a forty-year-old house of 165 square meters. The renovation avoids elaborate decoration. Recycled decorative logs replace interior walls and act as divider screens, creating a see-through effect, a brighter room and a simple, clear flow. Abundant green foliage and climbing plants fill the space. A gravity-powered watering system based on siphon theory replaces mechanical irrigation, filling eleven tanks evenly and adding the sound of dripping water. The design brings natural elements into an urban setting.
Island Hair Salon by Jacksam Yang was selected as a grand example of architectural design by the A' Design Award. Island Hair Salon won the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2021. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is a juried, academic and highly prestigious design competition which celebrates superior design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
