Pixel
Pixelhouse is a residential building designed as the home of an extended family in Ahmedabad, India. The design balances the need for privacy with shared family life across three floors. Offsets and stacked volumes create a stepped form with sheltered balconies and planted terraces that also serve as outdoor gathering areas. A central atrium staircase is lit by a skylight, and every bathroom receives daylight from above. Wood, stone, exposed brick and concrete provide thermal mass, while rainwater harvesting, solar panels and double glazing reduce energy use.
Pixel Residential Building by The Grid Architects has been highlighted as an innovative representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award. Pixel Residential Building was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2021. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design prize which recognizes outstanding design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
