Contrast of Materials
Contrast of Materials is a residential interior design for a single floor home of about 250 square meters in Taipei. The design links the living room and the dining room through changes of surface material. Light and thin tiles cover the refrigerator doors and the kitchen cabinets. Tiles also show cloth patterns, oil paintings, marble and gradients. Marble meets rock, stainless steel meets solid wood, and leather meets metal. Lamps and ceilings form soft arcs. Bedroom doors, kitchen equipment and storage cabinets are hidden to keep the space calm and concise.
Contrast of Materials Residential House by Chih-Chien Chen was selected as a creative representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Contrast of Materials Residential House won the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2020. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design prize that honors excellent design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
